The Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project “European Fundamental Values in Digital Era” aims to develop a framework based on European fundamental values to address the challenges shaped and caused by digitalization in Ukraine.
To this end, an Interdisciplinary Research Hub on European Fundamental Values and Digitalization has been established at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, bringing together the project participants and other experts.
The project consists of three components: research, education (knowledge sharing), and policy-making (applied).
The research component focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the EU’s fundamental values, their transformation in the digital age, the ways they are implemented in EU legislation, and how they can be implemented in Ukraine. The project team is responsible for preparing a collective monograph titled “European Fundamental Values in the Digital Age”, a series of articles, other publications, and organizing a series of methodological schools for young researchers, as well as various other activities for a broad audience.
The educational component involves activities aimed at sharing the research results with various stakeholders – policymakers, legal practitioners, civil servants, businesses, representatives of civil society, and students. The findings are disseminated through a variety of events: annual conferences, a series of workshops for legal practitioners, civil servants, business representatives, and civil society actors, as well as a series of workshops for students.
The policy-making component of the project is based on both the research and educational components, and on comparing the European and Ukrainian perceptions of fundamental European values in the digital age. Its goal is to develop recommendations and action plans for the project’s stakeholders to help them improve their practices.
